June 30, 2004 -- Salt and pepper shakers, wine charms, personalized golf tees, votive candles. If you’re a bride, you’re faced with a staggering array of options for wedding favors. Most brides look for something that matches their design theme, or expresses the special personality of the couple. But what about the guests?

Hipoli, a company offering handmade wedding favors, has run an informal survey asking people for the most HATED wedding favor they have received. “Brides put so much effort and thought into choosing these.� says Hipoli’s owner, Michelle Bahr, “It’s a shame to see guests wrinkling their noses at the reception.�

2.Figurines
3.Scrolls with poems
4.Jordan almonds
5.Butter/pillow mints

The group surveyed overwhelmingly voted against anything they felt was not “usefulâ€Â?. Knickknacks universally got the thumbs down, even ones of crystal or silver were disparaged as “more useless stuffâ€Â?. Making a knickknack by hand did not particularly get them extra credit â€â€Å" said one woman, “I felt bad throwing it away knowing someone had spent some serious time [making all of those … but really.â€Â?

The most controversial items were Jordan Almonds and Butter Mints â€â€Å" both had their violent detractors, but then many people specifically said how they love them!

What did these respondents like to receive for favors at a wedding? It ranged from chocolates or candies to candles, playing cards and CD’s. “The lesson to learn for your own wedding is to think of favors the same way as you do any other gift.� Says Bahr. “Ensure that what you are giving is beautiful and useful for the receiver, and you are guaranteed to have favors that your guests truly love.�
